Barry Greenstein
The cream always rises to the top. Out of 315 celebrities and poker Pros, the
final table of six at the
World Poker Tour Invitational were all poker Pros;
Barry Greenstein (third final table), Blair Rodman (second final table) and four
others making their first appearance – Tom Lock, Jesse Jones, Allen Kessler
and Ugur Marangoz.

The last celebrity standing was Wil Wheaton of “Stand by Me” and “Star Trek:
The Next Generation”. Wheaton lasted till the final three tables when his
pocket Tens got busted out by Scott Jensen’s pocket Aces.

The final table started off with Barry Greenstein in the lead. The chip counts
and seating assignments were…

Barry Greenstein - $1,190,000 - Seat 1
Tom Lock - $740,000 - Seat 5
Blair Rodman - $573,000 - Seat 2
Jesse Jones - $279,000 - Seat 6
Allen Kessler - $166,000 - Seat 4
Ugur Marangoz - $64,000 - Seat 3

The first bust out of the night occurred on the Seventh hand of the night.
Ugur Marangoz had the short stack with 64k in chips to begin the night and
lasted 42 minutes before he went heads-up against Jesse Jones after the
turn.

The flop and turn was 8h 6h 7h 6s. Jones goes All-In, Allen Kessler folds and
Ugur Marangoz calls.

Jones showed Ah 10h Jones flopped the Nut flush.
Marangoz showed As 2c Marangoz is done…he’s drawing dead.

The river is a 7s and Ugur Marangoz is gone in 6th place and earned him
$5,000. Not bad for a free roll.

After the initial action, play became a battle for the blinds as Allen Kessler
and Jesse Jones tried to make up ground in chip counts before the blinds
wiped them out. The two short stackers were aggressive as they took pots
from Greenstein, Lock and Rodman. The move paid off 46 hands later as Tom
Lock became the short stack and had to go over the top and All-In against
Barry Greenstein’s 90k raise after the flop; which Greenstein called.

Flop was 6h 10d 3h Greenstein originally raised 60 preflop, which Lock called.

Greenstein showed As 10c Greenstein’s ahead with the pair of Tens and Ace
kicker
Lock showed Jd 10s Lock probably thought he had a better kicker than
Greenstein; he needs another Jack to two-pair his hand and stay alive.

The river 2s didn’t help Tom Lock and he finished in 5th place and $10,000
richer.

With the win, Barry Greenstein took a substantial chip lead and got more
aggressive in four-man play. He started to build his chip stack as he took 6 of
the next 19 hands.

On the next hand is the hand of the night. This would be #1 on SportsCenter’
s play of the day. Under the gun, Barry Greenstein raises 90k preflop; the
action goes to Jesse Jones on the big blind. Jones goes over the top and
pushed his whole stack in; Greenstein didn’t hesitate and called.

Jones had Qc Jh
Greenstein had 9h 9d

The pro Jesse Jones crowd started to chant, “Jesse, Jesse, Jesse!” If
someone just walked in and didn’t know any better, they’d thought they
walked into a wresting match with Jesse “the Body” Ventura…yes the former
Governor of Minnesota.

The dealer laid out the cards and fanned them out…the showdown is on.

Flop came 10d 2h 9s there’s mixed emotions from the crowd. Greenstein’s
pair of Nines became a set, but there’s still hope as Jones flopped an open-
ended straight draw.

Turn came Kd, the crowd goes nuts! Finally something for them to cheer
about…what a turn of events (no pun intended); Jesse Jones made his
straight draw. He’s ahead with a K high straight. People are hugging and
high-fiving. They’re not even thinking that Greenstein still has a couple of
outs of his own – 10 to be exact. Any 9, 10, 2 or K gives him a Full-House or
Quad Nines…but what are the chances of that?

River came 9c Barry Greenstein hits the CASE Nine on the river – Quad Nines...
wow! Every tournament a player needs a little help, a thing call Lady Luck.
Barry Greenstein got that on the river and knocked out Jesse Jones. Jones
finished in 4th place and took home $15,000.

Two hands later, Allen Kessler raised 105k and Greenstein re-raised him
550k, which would put him all in. Kessler called and the men showed their
cards, which told us that Greenstein was catching cards…

Greenstein Jd Jh
Kessler Ah 7h

Flop came Ks Qs Js like the showdown against Jones, Greenstein’s made a
set with his Jacks and Kessler needs a 10 for the Nut Straight.

Turn came 7c Kessler paired his Sevens but still far behind.
River came 6s and ended Kessler's run in 3rd place and $25,000.

Now it’s heads up between the two players who had final table experience,
the cream does rises to the top. Heads up play lasted 16 hands.

The last hand saw Greenstein slow played with a small raised of 90k in the
small blind (Greenstein had about 2 million in chips at this time); Rodman re-
raised All-In. Greenstein’s trap worked and he quickly called. Both men
showed their cards.

Greenstein As Kc
Rodman Ac 10c

Rodman is way behind with roughly a 27% chance of a suckout.

Flop 10s 7h Ks gave both players a pair but Greenstein is now 90 favored to
win.
Turn came 4s not a good turn for Rodman has Greenstein now has a flush
draw.

River showed 2h Barry Greenstein’s Kings hold up.

Blair Rodman came in 2nd for the second time in as many final tables and
$50,000.

The crow started shouting "Barry, Barry, Barry!" Good guys do finish first as
Barry Greenstein the “Robin Hood of Poker” took the title at the 2006 WPT
Invitational and a $100,000 prize purse. The win also gave him a seat to the
WPT Championship

The reason Barry Greenstein’s called the “Robin Hood of Poker” is because he
donates all of his winnings to charity, mostly to Children Incorporated - an
organization that sponsors some 15,000 kids in 21 countries. He’s an
inspiration to many and considered by many to be one of the best poker
players in the world, Barry Greenstein; a modern day hero.
