Ronnie Kevin Wins $600 Limit Hold'em Event at Foxwoods World Poker Finals
2006 World Poker Finals World Poker Tour Season 5 Tournament Report Event #7 $530 + $70 Limit Hold'em
The 2006 World Poker Finals $600 Limit Hold’em Championship went to Ronnie Kevin of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Ronnie added to his list of accomplishments as he fought off the stiff competition of the final table and the rest of the 394 person field to claim the Championship Crystal trophy, commemorative leather jacket and $69,222!
The final four players at the table were the chip leaders at the start. John Myung of Rockville, MD, was the second of the four to depart. His sizable chip advantage was whittled down by Ronnie and Sol Mammon who each took big pieces of John’s stack. John went all-in with his last $100K (the limits were $20K/ $40K) with J-9; Ronnie was in with 10-8. A 6-7 on the flop and a 9 on the turn gave Ronnie the pot and John claimed 3rd place and $19,427. Local player Steve Coughlin of Glastonbury, CT, had played his stack and cards judiciously throughout the evening but with the high limits he was all-in with A-8. John Myung had J-8 and a J on the flop relegated Steve to 4th position worth $12,270. Sol Mammon survived several all-ins before finally succumbing to Ronnie in heads-up play. The final hand was anti-climatic as Sol had 9-5 and Ronnie K-9; a blank board gave Ronnie the victory and Sol, a resident of Plantation, FL, took 2nd place for $34,764. Ronnie at one point in the competition had been down to his last $65K. He went all-in with A-5 against Matt Vengrin’s A-K. An A on the flop gave Ronnie the pot and he never looked back.
Matt Vengrin of Red Hook, NY, was put in a deep hole by Ronnie on the above mentioned hand. He was shortly down to the felt and he could not top Steve’s pocket 3’s. Matt placed 5th which was good for $9,202. Michael DePascale was the real story of the final table. He started as the short stack and showed great resiliency (and Buckeye spirit) to fight his way to 6th position. His final hand was with A-4 against Sol’s 9-8; a 10 on the flop, a 7 on the turn and a J on the river gave Sol a straight. Michael would return to Vienna, OH, with $7,157. Jayme Parro improved on his 16th place finish in the $300 Shoot-Out by placing 7th today. He had to feel pretty good about his prospects as he went all-in with pocket A’s against Matt’s pocket 10’s. A 10 on the flop gave Matt a set and Jayme would return home to Belchertown, MA, with $6,135.
The first to depart the final table was Joe DiMartino, a resident of Ansonia, CT. Joe was all-in with A-J but Steve had pocket J’s and a J on the flop gave Steve a set. Joe had a flush draw but could connect and he was the 10th place finisher with $2,965. John McGuinn of Pembroke, NH, was all-in with K-Q; two pair on the board and Sol’s A kicker left John in 9th place worth $3,169. Herman Nie bet out pre-flop with pocket J’s; Ronnie had pocket 10’s and a 10 on the flop gave him a set. Herman took 8th place and $5,113 home to Elmhurst, NY. Ronnie Kevin had conquered the field to become the $600 Limit Hold’em Champion for 2006!
