Dale Montford Wins $300 No Limit Hold'em Shootout Event at Foxwoods World Poker Finals
|
2006 World Poker Finals World Poker Tour Season 5 Tournament Report Event #4 $530 + $70 Seven Card Stud
|
The $300 No-Limit Hold'em Modified Shootout for 2006 started with 961
players. Sessions were held at 10 am and 1 pm and the top three players on
each single table advanced to the 4 pm Finals. A total of 303 winners
returned at 4 pm and by the 2 pm curfew there were 24 players remaining.
They returned at 4 pm Wednesday in pursuit of the remaining money left in
the total prize pool of $244,305. The tournament was finally decided after
midnight when Dale Montford of nearby Norwich, CT, claimed the title over
Alan Goodman. Dale will return to Norwich with the Championship Trophy,
commemorative leather jacket and $68,406!
The final table began just before 8 pm and it was not long before the short
stack, Salvatore Amendola, East Haven, CT, was all-in. He had to feel pretty
good with pocket A's against Edmund Gress' pocket 10's until a 10 appeared
on the flop. Salvatore finished in 10th position for $3,787. Michael Libraty of
Hollywood, FL, was all-in for his last $60,000 with pocket Q's.
Adam Lippert called the all-in with Q-5; the flop came 3-4-6 and a Q on the
turn cheered Michael but the cheers turned to sorrow when a deuce came on
the river to give Adam the straight. Michael collected $4,886 for 9th. Joseph
Worrell, a resident of Brigantine, NJ, tried to make something happen but
could not catch the cards and he lost his last chips to Sherwin Agard. Joe
took home $6,108 and finished in 8th.
There would be almost an hour of play before Edmund Gress took a stand
with K-Q. Dale called Edmund's allin with pocket 9's. Edmund could not pair,
finished 7th and returned to home in Chester, CT with $7,329. Shortly
thereafter, Eugen Cirneci of Ridgewood, NY, had pocket Q's and moved all-in.
Dale again made the call this time with A-J. An A on the turn gave the pot to
Dale and Eugen was relegated to 6th place and he took home $8,551 for his
efforts.
Sherwin Agard of Randolph, MA, finished in 5th place after he was all-in with
pocket K's but lost when Alan Goodman with A-J caught an A on the river.
Sherwin had $10,993 for his work at the final table.
The last four players were virtually even in chips but the tide soon turned to
the top two finishers. Adam Lippert, of Brooklyn, NY, who had finished 2nd in
this event in the Foxwoods Poker Classic, had earlier lost a large pot with A-K
to Alan Goodman's pocket 9‘s. The penultimate hand for Adam was also a
loss for Neil Harvey of York, PA. Dale went all-in and both Adam and Neil
called. Adam turned over pocket 6's, Neil pocket 7's and Dale pocket 9's. The
9's held up and both Adam and Neil were severely short stacked. The next
hand they were both all-in again this time against Alan.
Adam had pocket Q's, Neil A-6 and Alan K-6. When the board came K-9-7-J-6,
Alan had eliminated both players. Neil was in 3rd because of a slight chip
advantage over Adam who took 4th. Adam took home $13,437 and Neil
$19,545.
Dale had the chip advantage beginning heads-up play and he slowly
increased his edge. When Alan finally took a stand and went all-in with A7,
Dale called and turned over A-8. A board of 3-4-6-10-2 gave the victory to
Dale and left Alan with $35,790 to ease the pain of losing. Dale was the $300
Shoot-out Champion for 2006!
