RECORD ATTENDANCE AT WPT® BORGATA POKER OPEN
Championship Event Attracts 1,042 Players; Generates $3.4 Million Prize Pool
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (September 20, 2010) – The 2010 WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship event got off to a record-breaking start this past weekend, drawing 1,042 poker professionals and amateurs to the Event Center and generating a prize pool of $3,438,600.
With the largest turn-out for a Borgata Poker Open championship event, and the largest field in the history of the World Poker Tour, Day 1 saw players from across the globe begin their quest for a title, with Vicenzo Abate (Toronto, Canada) leading the field as the chip leader with 201,475.
Among the 641 players returning for Day 2 action are former Borgata Poker Open Champions Olivier Buequet (2009) and Roy Winston (2007), as well as WSOP Main Event Champions Jerry Yang (2007) and Robert Varkonyi (2002), WSOP runner-up Steve Dannenmann (2005), and WSOP third place finisher from 2006 in Michael Binger. Other notable pros still in the tournament include WSOP bracelet winners Gavin Smith and Steve Zolotow, as well as Billy Gazes, Maria Ho, Tiffany Michelle, Bernard Lee, WPT commentator Mike Sexton, and Josh Brikis.
The 16-day Borgata Poker Open series will conclude this Thursday, as filming continues for the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship event, which will be televised on Fox Sports Net.
