2010 WSOP Main Event Down to Two Players – Heads Up Play Begins Monday

Sunday, November 7th, 2010

The 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event is winding down as there are only two players left in the $10,000 buy-in championship event. After starting the day with a total of nine players, the Main Event has finally got down to heads-up play.

Here is a list of some key hands and eliminations from the final table:

9th Place: Soi Nguyen was knocked out in 9th place when his A-K was beat by Jason Senti’s pocket Queen’s. Senti flopped a set of queens and Nguyen finished in 9th and took home $811,823.

8th Place: Matt Jarvis shoved all-in with 9-9 and was called by Mizrachi’s A-Q. The flop put two queens on the board. Jarvis caught a 9 on the river and went ahead in the hand with a full house, On the river an ace fell which gave Mizrachi a bigger full house. Jarvis finished in 8th place and won a total of $1,045,738.

7th Place: Jason Senti went all-in with Ad-Ks against Joseph Cheong’s pocket 10′s and flopped trip kings with a board of Kd-Kh-Qs. The turn came a Jd which gave Cheong a straight draw. On the river a 9d came which knocked out Jason Senti in 7th place. Senti received $1,356,720.

6th Place: John Dolan raised all-in from the small blind with Qd-5d and was called by Jonathan Duhamel holding 4c-4d. The flop came Jh-7h-6h. The turn was a 9 of hearts. With the 3c on the river John Dolan’s Main Event was over and he finished in 6th place. His total winnings were $1,772,959.

5th Place: On hand #185 everyone folded to Jonathan Duhamel in the small blind who limps in. Mizrachi is on the big blind and checks. The flop comes 5d-4s-Qc and Duhamel checks. Grinder bets 2 million and gets check-raised by Duhamel and Mizrachi decides to move all-in. Duhamel calls. On the showdown Mizrachi shows Qd-8h for a pair of queens. Duhamel shows Ad-Ac. Duhamel slow played his pocket aces. The turn is a Jd which is no help for the Grinder. The river was a Kd. Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi is eliminated in 5th place. He earned a total of $2,332,992.

4th Place: Action folded to Filippo Candio who shoves all-in from the small blind and is quickly called by Joseph Cheong. Candio shows a Kd-Qd and Cheong turns over Ac-3c. The flop comes Ah-7d-2s which gives Cheong the lead with a pair of aces. A 5h on the turn leaves Candio drawing dead and a meaningless 4s falls on the river. Filippo Candio is knocked out in 4th place and receives $3,092,545.

3rd Place: On hand #219 Joseph Cheong moves all-in from the small blind and the decision goes to Jonathan Duhamel on the big blind. After getting a clock called on him, Duhamel decides to make the call. Cheong is all-in and at risk of getting eliminated holding a Qs-10c against the As-2c of chipleader Duhamel. The flop is Ks-9c-6c. This gives Cheong a gutshot straight draw. The turn comes a 6h which pairs the board. The river is no help for Cheong and he is eliminated in 3rd place. Joseph Cheong won a total of $4,130,049.

The 2010 WSOP Main Event is down to only two players. Jonathan Duhamel has a huge chip advantage holding 188,950,000 against John Racener’s 30,750,000. Play will resume at 8 pm local time on Monday at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Now, there is just one thing left to decide – who gets the Main Event gold bracelet and the $8.9 million first place prize?

Event #17: This was a $5,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em event which attracted a total of 792 entrants and had a prize pool worth $3,772,400. This tournament was one of the toughest fields so far in the 2010 WSOP. Many of the world’s top pros were out in force to play in this event. Jason DeWitt beat Sam Trickett heads-up to win the $818,959 first place prize as well as a coveted WSOP gold bracelet. Here is how the final hand went down: DeWitt moved all-in on the button and Sam Trickett quickly called. DeWitt shows a 8h-10s. Trickett turns over As-7d.
