2006 WSOP Coverage Begins June 26th

Ultimate Poker Forum is proud to announce that we will be beginning complete coverage of the 2006 World Series of Poker on June 26th. We will provide complete results for each and every one of the 45 scheduled events as soon as they become available.

This year's WSOP looks to be a record breaking tournament. With officials expecting up to 8,000 entrants, the total prize pool for the 2006 World Series of Poker $10,000 Main Event may reach up to $80,000,000! That is quite a bit of money up for grabs. This year's winner looks to bring home up to $10 Million. With a first prize as monstrous as this, I expect many of today's best poker players will be bringing their "A" games to the tables.

Will Joe Hachem make it deep into the tournament this year? Can Greg Raymer repeat his unbelievable performances from 2004 and 2005? Will we ever hear about Chris Moneymaker cashing in another WSOP? These are some of the questions everyone will be asking as the 2006 WSOP approaches.

One thing is for sure. The 2006 World Series of Poker will feature some of today's best players as well as a sea of new faces and personalities.

We love this time of year at UltimatePokerForum.com. So many possibilities and it all culminates with the $10,000 buy-in Main Event. Ahh, to be a poker player in the summer. This is what all poker players wait for all year long.

Get ready, because Event #1 of the 2006 WSOP will begin on June 25th. Our staff are eagerly awaiting the start of this year's WSOP. So, visit UltimatePokerForum.com, sit back and relax, and get complete coverage and up to date results for the 2006 WSOP.  We're ready to "Shuffle up and deal!".

Prohibition on Internet Poker

It is estimated that more than 70 million Americans play and enjoy poker and approximately 23 million people play the game online. Poker is considered to be one of America's favorite past-times and is considered by many to be a true game of skill. The likes of former President Harry Truman to departed Chief Justice William Rehnquist have enjoyed playing poker and are attracted to the challenge and skill involved in the game. Poker has tested the intellect of many Americans for more than 100 years.

However, if some members of Congress have their way, a prohibition on playing poker on the internet may soon force you to fold your hand. There is currently Legislation running through Congress right now that will try to stop Americans from playing Internet poker. They plan to to enforce this by deputizing banks and Internet service providers to prevent you from accessing poker websites.

Recently, poker professionals Chris Ferguson, Greg Raymer and Howard Lederer met with lawmakers, staff and war vets at Walter Reed Army Medical Center to help build some support for online gambling. "This is a truly American tradition. Truman played. Departed Chief Justice William Rehnquist had games in chambers," argues Michael Bolcerek of the Poker Player's Alliance. His compromise with the foes of poker: Regulate it, tax it, "but don't treat poker players like al Qaeda."

The staff at UltimatePokerForum.com suggest all poker players who have not done so already, become a member of the Poker Player's Alliance today. With some support from you and other other poker players, they can help to fight the efforts by Congress to ban online poker.

The Poker Player's Alliance is a growing group of more than 27,000 poker players which is fighting this legislation and working to promote and protect the game of poker. The Poker Player's Alliance is urging Congress to regulate the poker environment with a rational and realistic approach to online poker. They support measures much like the regulations and rules that govern traditional casinos. The Poker Player's Alliance supports regulation which enables poker to be safe, fair, and honest.

Unlike some other countries, America is behind the times in terms of regulating poker. The government of the United Kingdom has passed laws permitting and regulating online poker. The Poker Player's Alliance is currently supporting this regulation as a common sense alternative to prohibition. We believe you should too.

If you would like to help support the Poker Player's Alliance and keep current on legislation in regard to online poker, Join the PPA. Send out an email or write a letter to your members of Congress and speak out about how you feel about online poker. Don't let the government ban online poker. Tell Congress that putting the word "online" in front of poker should not tarnish this great American tradition.

Visit the Poker Player's Alliance website.

We will be following this story and will periodically update on this subject. Look for some articles regarding this legislation to be featured on our site shortly at UltimatePokerForum.com.

Lake Tahoe Championship June 18

Chip counts have been posted for end of day 2 of the 2006 Harvey's Lake Tahoe Circuit Championship Event. The chip leader going into the Final Table is Brian Fidler of Stamford, Connecticut with 639,000 in chips. Tony Le of Reno, Nevada is second with a total chip count of 341,000. Complete chip counts for the final 9 players can be found here.

Fidler's story of how he came to Harrah's Lake Tahoe is truly remarkable. He won an online tournament which gave the winner poker lessons from poker pro Daniel Negreanu. Fidler has thus become known as "Protégé" for his affiliation with his poker mentor Negreanu. However, since Negreanu busted-out of this tournament on Day One and is standing on the rail, while Fidler currently has a massive chip lead, one must wonder, will Fidler be coaching Negreanu anytime soon?

Grand Prix de Paris Championship Over

The 2006 Grand Prix de Paris No Limit Hold'em Championship event has concluded. Congratulations to Christian Grundtvig of Hellerup, Denmark who battled Jani Sointula of Finland heads up to win the 10,000 Euro buy-in event. Christian began heads up play with a chip lead of 2,400,000 to Jani's 1,100,000 in chips.

Christian took advantage of the high blinds by putting his opponent under pressure. Capitalizing on his chip lead, Grundtvig had 80% of all the chips in play going into the final half hour of play. The final table consisted of strictly European players, and it was nearly an all Scandinavian table.

On the final hand, Jani Sointula went all-in with an A-5 and Grundtvig called with a pocket pair of sixes. The board came 8-J-8-K, which left an opportunity for Jani to outdraw Grundtvig. The river offered no help to Sointula who finished in second place and received 356,250 Euros for his runner up finish.

Christian Grundtvig collected a lot of chips the day before by cracking pocket Aces with his pair of Kings when a King came on the river. This 700,000 pot ultimately proved to be a a key hand. Christian won 712,500 Euros for finishing in first place and receives an entry into the $25,500 buy-in 2007 WPT Championship at Bellagio.

Complete results for all events of the 2006 Grand Prix de Paris are available here.

Final Table Set for Grand Prix de Paris

The final table is set for the 2006 Grand Prix de Paris Championship event. The World Poker Tour will begin filming with six players remaining. The chip leader going to the final table is Thomas Wahlroos of Helsinki, Finland with 653,000 in chips.

Phil Hellmuth was eliminated in 16th place. After being shortstacked Phil needed to make a move. Angelo Yu, who had been playing quite aggressively and loose, raised from under the gun and made it 18,000 to call. Hellmuth, with 43,000 in chips, raised all-in with an A-10 offsuit. Yu, committed to the pot by his raise, called and showed an A-6 of diamonds. Angelo Yu flopped the nut flush and knocked Hellmuth out in 16th place.

The biggest pot of the tournament so far was between Kenneth Strandli and Christian Grundtvig. A massive pot ensued when Grundtvig's pocket Kings went up against Strandli's pocket Aces. The flop offered no help to either player, nor did the turn. On the river, much to the dismay of Strandli, Grundtvig spiked a King on the river to take down a 700,000 pot.

Henri Boutbol was eliminated in 7th place when his pocket fives were taken down by Henrik Witt holding an A-8.  Witt flopped an eight and the turn and river offered no help to Boutbol who went out on the TV bubble. Final chip counts for the final six players can be found by click here.

We will post the final results for the 2006 Grand Prix de Paris Championship event as soon as they become available.

2006 WPT Mandalay Bay Poker Championship Update

UltimatePokerForum.com would like to congratulate Joe Tehan of Utica, New York for winning the Championship Event at the 2006 Mandalay Bay Poker Championship.

Joe started with 1,371,000 in chips when Final Table play began with six players remaining. He managed to build his chip stack to a healthy 3,000,000 with three players left. He was in an aggressive playing mode and was battling with Burt Boutin off and on even before they got down to heads up.

With three players left and Brad Booth down 1,000,000 in chips, Boutin seemed to be content with Tehan blinding off Booth while aggressively raising preflop. With about 300,000 in chips left, Brad Booth was reraised all-in by Burt Boutin. Booth showed a Kc-5c, Boutin a pocket pair of threes. Booth gets no pair on the flop and no help on the turn and river. Brad Booth of White Horse, Canada finishes in 3rd place and takes home $319,180 in prize money.

Heads up play began with with Joe Tehan holding almost a 2-1 chip lead over Burt Boutin. Tehan had 4,500,000 in chips, Boutin had 2,500,000.

Down to the last hand, Joe Tehan raises to $240,000, Boutin goes all-in with 1,400,00 in chips. Tehan calls. Boutin shows A-10, Tehan shows a 8-9. Tehan flops trip nines and the turn and river offer little help for Boutin. Joe Tehan wins the first Mandalay Bay Poker Championship and takes home $1,033,440. Burt Boutin, of Las Vegas, Nevada finishes in 2nd place and wins $604,765.
