A Primer on the game of Backgammon

Backgammon is a game, which uses checkers, dice and dice cup along with a
doubling cube on a board of 24 triangles (points) as instruments in a small
battle on the playing field.

Each player has fifteen checkers, which he sets up, as his opponent sets up
his checkers of a different color in a mirror position.

The objective of the game is to move all of your fifteen pieces into your home
quadrant of six points and then take them all off the board before your
opponent achieves that same goal.

Backgammon Vs. Poker

Any professional poker player understands the importance of acting
according to the weaknesses in an opponent's game. For example, if an

opponent is easy; if you can't beat a legitimate hand, you will fold.

version of backgammon online. These softwares entered the already very
crowded backgammon market that was occupied by backgammon servers
which were created by companies that focus only on backgammon (as
Gammon Empire, FIBS and BKGM).

have live. But let's take a look at the other factors.

Backgammon Rules and Variations

Most of the backgammon rules (or laws) are well understood and never
disputed. The game is one of total information, unlike poker or bridge, so
there is very little opportunity for misunderstanding or, thankfully, cheating. It
is very difficult, though not impossible, to control the numbers that you roll.

Doubling Cube Basic Rules

The doubling cube is the very heart of backgammon and makes it the exciting
game that it is. Without it the game might well have died off in the 1920's.
Despite the fact that it has now been in existence for eighty years it is also
the least well understood and most difficult part of the game.
