Tournament Report

The 2006 Bellagio 4th Annual Five Star World Poker Classic continued
Thursday with the final table for Event #8 ($2,500 No Limit Hold'em). On
Wednesday, 288 players entered the tournament, playing until 3:00 am
before stopping play with 13 players:

1.  David Baker  -  230,000
2.  Arthur Rhea  -  205,500
3.  Tom Robison  -  168,500
4.  Bruno Fitoussi  -  147,500
5.  Al Ardebili  -  139,000
6.  Robert Stevanovski  -  116,000
7.  Tony Cousineau  -  97,000
8.  Todd Keikoan  -  86,500
9.  Robert Durant, Jr.  -  81,500
10.  Bill Corrigan  -  57,000
11.  Chris "Armenian Express" Grigorian  -  41,000
12.  Jess Yawitz  -  39,000
13.  Warren Karp  -  31,500

Play resumed at 3:00 pm Thursday, with blinds at 3,000-6,000 (1,000 ante).
It took about half an hour to eliminate three people and reach the final table:
Chris Grigorian (13th), Robert Stevanovski (12th), and Arthur Rhea (11th).

The final ten drew for seats at the final table. Here were the updated chip
counts:

1.  Al Ardebili  -  326,000  (seat 7)
2.  Tom Robison  -  231,000  (seat 2)
3.  Bruno Fitoussi  -  198,000  (seat 5)
4.  David Baker  -  155,000  (seat 8)
5.  Todd Keikoan  -  123,000  (seat 6)
6.  Bill Corrigan  -  115,000  (seat 9)
7.  Jess Yawitz  -  100,000  (seat 10)
8.  Tony Cousineau  -  80,000  (seat 1)
9.  Warren Karp  -  56,000  (seat 3)
10.  Robert Durant  -  37,000  (seat 4)

Durant moved all in with A-10 against Baker's pocket deuces. Baker hit a full
house on a flop of 9-9-2, and Durant was already drawing dead. (The last
two cards were 4-10.) Robert Durant was out in 10th place.

The blinds increased to 4,000-8,000 (1,000 ante) before Cousineau went all
in with A-K against Baker's Q-J. Baker again improved on the flop, this time
hitting a pair when it fell J-9-6. The turn card was another J, clinching the
hand for Baker with trip jacks. Tony Cousineau was out in 9th place.

Yawitz moved all in with Ac-10c in late position, but Fitoussi discovered
pocket kings (Kc-Ks) in the big blind. The board came 9c-7h-7s-5c-4h, and
Fitoussi's kings held up. Jess Yawitz was out in 8th place.

Corrigan went all in under the gun for his last 50,000, Keikoan called from
late position, and Baker called from the big blind. Baker and Keikoan both
checked down a board of Ad-Kc-8d-8c-Qc. Baker showed Ac-7c (ace-high
flush), and the other two players mucked. Bill Corrigan was out in 7th place.

The blinds increased to 6,000-12,000 (2,000 ante) before Karp went all in for
his last few chips from the big blind with 9d-6s. Fitoussi called with 10d-9s,
and had him dominated. The board came Ac-Kc-Kd-8d-4d, and Warren Karp
was out in 6th place.

Robison went all in from the button with As-2c, and Keikoan called from the
big blind with Kc-9c. Robison led after a neutral flop, but a nine on the turn
gave Keikoan the lead with a pair. The last card was no help to Tom Robison,
and he was eliminated in 5th place.

Ardebili went all in with pocket tens (10d-10h), and Keikoan called with Ad-Qd
-- it was a race situation. The flop came 9h-8h-5s, and Ardebili retained his
lead with his pocket pair. But the turn card was the Qc, giving Keikoan the
lead with a pair of queens. Ardebili needed a jack or a ten on the river, but
the last card was another queen (Qs), giving Keikoan trips. Al Ardebili was
out in 4th place.

Baker moved all in with pocket fours, and Fitoussi called with J-5 offsuit. It
wasn't a classic confrontation like big slick against pocket queens, but it was
still a race situation. Fitoussi took the lead on a flop of A-K-5, giving him a pair
of fives. Baker needed a four to survive. The turn card paired the board with
another 5, giving Fitoussi trips, but it didn't change anything -- Baker could
still win the hand with a four. But the last card was a blank, and David Baker
was out in 3rd place.

The blinds increased to 8,000-16,000 (3,000 ante) before heads-up play
began with the following chip counts:

Bruno Fitoussi  -  837,000
Todd Keikoan  -  603,000

It didn't take long before Fitoussi raised to 40,000, Keikoan min-raised to
80,000, Fitoussi moved all in, and Keikoan called with pocket sixes (6c-6s).
Fitoussi showed As-3h, and he'd need to improve to win the tournament on
this hand. Fitoussi was looking for an ace, but instead the board gave
Keikoan an unnecessary ten-high straight. Keikoan doubled up to take a
commanding lead with about 1,200,000 to Fitoussi's 160,000.

Fitoussi lost some chips before doubling up, and then lost some more before
doubling up again. Eventually, Fitoussi moved all in after a flop of 6c-5s-2h,
and Keikoan called with 7d-3d (gut-shot straight draw). Fitoussi showed
Qc-6h (pair of sixes), and it would need to hold up for him to survive. The turn
card was the 9s, giving Keikoan a double-gut-shot straight draw, and he
could now win with a four, a seven, or an eight. The river card was the 4s,
and Keikoan made a seven-high straight to win the hand -- and the
tournament. Bruno Fitoussi finished as the runner-up in 2nd place.

Todd Keikoan won Event #8 ($2,500 No-Limit Hold'em), earning $254,285, a
gold Bellagio bracelet, and a $25,500 seat in the WPT World Championship
on April 18th.
