Notes: Winner receives $25,500 entry into WPT Championship
Tournament Report
The 2006 Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic continued Wednesday with
the final table for Event #7 ($2,000 No Limit Hold'em). On Tuesday, 493
players entered the tournament, playing past 2:00 am before stopping play
with 9 players:
1. Jeff Littlefield - 406,500 (seat 4)
2. Terry Jacobs - 231,500 (seat 5)
3. Ryan Larson - 166,500 (seat 6)
4. Edward Forlani - 144,500 (seat 1)
5. Olga Spirova - 121,500 (seat 7)
6. Chris Hinchcliffe - 111,000 (seat 3)
7. Brad Guttilla - 67,000 (seat 9)
8. Woodrow Bean - 62,500 (seat 2)
9. Matt Giannetti - 41,000 (seat 8)
Play resumed at 3:00 pm Wednesday, with about half an hour left with blinds
at 2,000-4,000 (500 ante).
About twenty minutes in, Hinchcliffe doubled through Jacobs with aces vs.
jacks. It didn't take long for them to tangle again, but this time Jacobs was
short-stacked and all in with Ks-Js against Hinchcliffe's pocket queens. The
flop came 9-7-2, but there were two spades on the board to give Jacobs a
flush draw and some hope. Unfortunately, the last two cards were blank, and
Terry Jacobs was sent home in 9th place.
Giannetti was short-stacked and moved all in with A-8 offsuit against Bean's
J-8 offsuit. Giannetti had him dominated, but the flop of 10-9-7 gave Bean a
jack-high straight. Giannetti's only hope for survival would be to catch
another jack to counterfeit Bean's hand, but the last two cards were blanks.
Matt Giannetti was out in 8th place.
About an hour later, Bean raised preflop, Hinchcliffe reraised, and Bean called
all in with Ah-Kd. Hinchcliffe was dominated with As-Qc, until the flop came
Qh-Jd-6d, giving him the lead with a pair of queens. Bean needed a king, a
ten, or running diamonds to stay alive, but the last two cards were 7h-5c.
Woodrow Bean was out in 7th place.
Half an hour later, Larson was all in preflop with Qd-Js, but he was
dominated by Forlani's As-Qh. The flop of Kh-Qc-Jh, reversed the situation
and put Larson in the lead with two pair. Forlani would need an ace (for a
higher two pair) or a ten (for a straight) to regain the lead. The turn card was
the 10h, giving Forlani the straight. Only a non-heart ace on the river could
save Larson with an identical straight, but the last card was the 8s. Ryan
Larson was busted in 6th place.
It was another ten minutes or so when Guttilla was all in with Ad-9d against
Hinchcliffe's pocket fours (4d-4h). The board fell 10-5-5-Q-K, and Brad Guttilla
was out in 5th place.
Eventually, Spirova was short-stacked and all in preflop with Ah-7h. But she
found herself dominated by Littlefield's As-8c. The flop of Js-9c-8d gave
Littlefield a pair of eights, but Spirova picked up a gut-shot straight draw. But
the last two cards were 6s-4d, and Olga Spirova was out in 4th place.
A while later, Forlani bet 40,000 on a board of Js-9c-9h-7d, and Hinchcliffe
called. The river card was the Ac, and Forlani moved all in. Hinchcliffe called
with 10c-9s (trip nines), but Forlani had him outkicked with Kd-9d (trip nines,
king kicker). Chris Hinchcliffe was out in 3rd place.
The final two players were Littlefield and Forlani, and they were nearly even
in chips, with about 600,000 each.
They battled each other over small pots for well over an hour, but Forlani had
all the momentum, eventually building up a substantial 4-to-1 chip lead.
On the final hand, Forlani limped from the small blind, Littlefield moved all in,
and Forlani immediately called with pocket kings (Kc-Ks). Littlefield showed
As-4h, and his best hope was to catch an ace. But the board came
Jh-10s-7s-Qc-7h, and Jeff Littlefield would be eliminated as the runner-up in
2nd place.
Edward Forlani won Event #7 ($2,000 No-Limit Hold'em), earning $239,775, a
gold Bellagio bracelet, and a $25,500 seat in the WPT World Championship
on April 18th. Forlani joins John Roveto, Sr. as the only two players to reach
multiple final tables in this tournament. Interestingly, both of Forlani's final
tables came in the $2,000 events. At his first final table, Forlani's
seventh-place finish earned him a little over $13,000; this time, first place
garnered him about 20 times as much.
