Tournament Report

The 2006 Bellagio Five Star World Poker Classic continued Monday with the
final table for Event #5 ($5,000 No Limit Hold'em). On Saturday, 203 players
entered the tournament, playing until about 3:00 am before stopping play
with 16 players:

1.  Max Pescatori  -  317,500
2.  Kent Washington  -  273,500
3.  Nenad Medic  -  163,500
4.  Barry Greenstein  -  159,000
5.  Chris Hinchcliffe  -  147,000
6.  Frank Kassela  -  131,500
7.  Humberto Brenes  -  113,500
8.  Adeeb Harb  -  104,500
9.  Orlando Maldonado, Jr.  -  104,000
10.  Andy Miller  -  94,000
11.  Sigi Stockinger  -  93,000
12.  John Roveto, Sr.  -  86,000
13.  Kathy Liebert  -  85,500
14.  Paul Alterman  -  73,000
15.  Magnus Gustavsson  -  61,500
16.  Men "The Master" Nguyen  -  33,000

Play resumed at 3:00 pm Monday, and it took a little over an hour to reach
the final table. The eliminated players were Men "The Master" Nguyen (16th),
Andy Miller (15th), Sigi Stockinger (14th), Kathy Liebert (13th), Frank Kassela
(12th), and Chris Hinchcliffe (11th).

At this point, they redrew for seats at the final table:

Seat 1  -  Humberto Brenes
Seat 2  -  Paul Alterman
Seat 3  -  Kent Washington
Seat 4  -  Barry Greenstein
Seat 5  -  John "Kicker" Roveto, Sr.
Seat 6  -  Max Pescatori
Seat 7  -  Orlando Maldonado, Jr.
Seat 8  -  Nenad Medic
Seat 9  -  Adeeb Harb
Seat 10  -  Magnus Gustavsson

At 4:30 pm, Maldonado moved all in with A-9 offsuit, but he was facing an
uphill battle against Washington's pocket queens. There were no aces to
save Orlando Maldonado, and he was sent home in 10th place.

About fifteen minutes later, Medic's J-10 offsuit couldn't overcome Harb's
pocket tens on a board of Q-9-3-3-9. Nenad Medic became the 9th place
finisher.

Five minutes later, Brenes moved all in with A-J against Gustavsson's pocket
threes. The flop of A-6-3 hit both players, but it would take something
runner-runner for Brenes to overcome Gustavsson's set. The last two cards
were Q-6, giving Gustavsson a full house, and Humberto Brenes was out in
8th place.

The next hand, Pescatori was all in with pocket kings, in a position to
dominate every hand but one. Unfortunately for Pescatori, Gustavsson had
that one -- pocket aces. The board brought blanks, and Max Pescatori was
knocked out in 7th place after starting the day with the chip lead.

About 5:00 pm, the players took a 15-minute break before the blinds
increased to 6,000-12,000 (2,000 ante). Here were the approximate chip
counts:

1.  Magnus Gustavsson  -  800,000  (seat 6)
2.  Adeeb Harb  -  385,000  (seat 5)
3.  Kent Washington  -  335,000  (seat 2)
4.  Barry Greenstein  -  305,000  (seat 3)
5.  Paul Alterman  -  170,000  (seat 1)
6.  John "Kicker" Roveto, Sr.  -  29,000  (seat 4)

Roveto wasted no time after the break, and moved in on the very next hand.
Gustavsson called with pocket eights, but everyone was surprised when
Roveto showed a very strong hand -- pocket queens. The flop came K-J-J, but
the turn card was an 8, giving Gustavsson the lead with a set of snowmen.
Roveto needed a queen on the river, but the last card was an ace. John
"Kicker" Roveto, Sr. was eliminated in 6th place.

About 6:00 pm, Alterman was all in with A-5 offsuit, but he was dominated by
Washington's pocket aces. The board came K-10-3-4-9, teasing Alterman
with a gut-shot straight draw on the turn. But he missed on the river, and
Paul Alterman was out in 5th place.

Ten minutes later, Harb and Gustavsson saw a raised flop of Qd-10c-8d. Harb
bet 150,000, Gustavsson moved all in, and Harb called with Ks-Qc (pair of
queens). Gustavsson showed 10d-9d (pair of tens, flush draw, gut-shot
straight draw). Gustavsson was looking for diamonds, but the last two cards
were small and black -- 3s-5s. Harb's pair of queens held up, and Magnus
Gustavsson finished in 4th place.

That hand put Harb in the lead with over 1.2 million in chips, compared to
about 470,000 for Washington and 400,000 for Greenstein.

About 6:40 pm, Washington moved all in with Ah-7c, but Harb found pocket
jacks (Jd-Jh) in the small blind. The flop came 10c-9h-2h, and Washington
needed an ace or something runner-runner to survive. The turn card was the
8s, giving Washington an open-ended straight draw, but two of his outs (the
jacks) were in Harb's hand. The river card was the Qh, giving Harb an
unnecessary queen-high straight to win the hand. Kent Washington became
the 3rd place finisher.

That hand gave Harb a big chip lead (4-to-1) over Greenstein as they began
heads-up play.

They battled for nearly an hour before Greenstein raised to 50,000, Harb
moved all in, and Greenstein called with A-K offsuit. Harb showed Ac-6c, and
Greenstein was in a dominating position to double up here. But the flop was
nearly perfect for Harb -- he paired his six and picked up a club flush draw.
Now Greenstein was dominated, and he needed to catch a king and avoid
any more clubs. The turn card was the 2c, giving Harb his flush, the hand,
and the tournament. Barry Greenstein finished as the runner-up in second
place.

Adeeb Harb won Event #5 ($5,000 No-Limit Hold'em), earning $380,350, a
gold Bellagio bracelet, and a $25,500 seat in the WPT World Championship
on April 18th. Harb may not be a household name, but this isn't his first poker
bracelet -- he won the $1,500 Omaha Eight-or-Better event in the 1996
World Series of Poker.
