Tournament Report

About 14 ½ minuets remain on the clock in this level.  With the very first
hand; Mike Sica triples through Theo Tran and Norm Ketchum.  A jack on the
turn hits Sica’s 8c-10c for an inside straight and a large pot.

9th Place:
Brett Thomas with the Jd-6h locks up with Tran; holding Ac-Jh.  The flop is 2s-
Jd-4c with the 3s and river 10h.  Tran takes down the pot with the pair of J’s.
Thomas checks out in 9th Place.

Time runs out, the blinds change to $1500/3000 with a $500 ante.

8th Place:
Tran pushes all-in followed by an all-in call from Scott Obst.  Tran shows an
Ac-Kd and Obst a Qc-Jc.  The flop comes 3h-2c-5d; no help for Obst, Tran
leads with A high.  A 2s on the turn and Kh on the river gives Tran top pair.
Obst takes down 8th place.

7th Place:
With some dead penalty money in the pot, Tony Cousineau pushes all-in;
called by Tran.  Cousineau shows Jd-7h to Tran’s pair of  3’s.  The flop comes
as 9h-4s-Qs, turn 8d and river 3s.  Tran scores with a set of treys.
Cousineau leaves with 7th place.

6th Place:
Treys continue to bully the table.  Dan Schmiech is all-in called by Felipe
Roman.  Schmiech shows Ac-6c to Roman’s K-3.  Schmiech leads through the
flop and turn, then takes a dip on the river.  The flop of 10h-8c-9d is followed
by the 4c and 3d.  Treys win.  Schmiech exits in 6th place.

5th Place:
Fifth place is a battle of the blinds.  Big blind Ron Stritzinger is all-in called by
small blind Roman.  Stritzinger turns up Ad-6d and Roman As-8h.  The
completed board helps neither player.  Roman’s A-8 high cards; Stritzinger
takes away 5th place.

4th Place:
Roman then pushes all-in with pocket K’s; called by Mike Sika with Ac-Qh.  K’s
lead thru the flop of 8s-7h-9c and turn 8h.  The river comes as the usually
expected A.  Pocket K’s terminate Roman in 4th place.

The blinds change to $2000/4000 with a $500 ante.

3rd Place:
Sica runs into a brick wall; hard.  Leading out pre-flop with a raise, he is
called by Ketchum.  The flop is Qs-3h-Js; check/check.  An 8s on the turn has
Sica drawing to an A-high spade flush; all-in and called immediately by
Ketchum.   Little does he know that his outs have evaporated; drawing
dead.  The 5s on the river appears to be the dream card, but Ketchum rolls
out the 9s-10s for a straight flush.  Sica exits in 3rd place.

Once again the time clock chimes.  The small blind will be $3000, big blind
$6000 and ante $1000.  Heads up action plays out for an entire level.
Ketchum and Tran are about equal in chips passing one stack back and forth
with no significant edge to either player.  Ketchum then takes down a
deciding pot.  With a 10-J in the hole, he hits an inside K high straight.
The pot is over $200,000; Tran has taken a direct shot; fatal to his
tournament life.

2nd Place/1st Place:
Mortally wounded, Tran pushes all-in with Kc-9d.  He is called by Ketchum
with Ac-Jh.  The flop of 2h-8s-6h gives Ketchum A-high.  A 4d on the turn
improves neither player, but a J on the river ends Tran’s tournament life with
a 2nd place finish.  Norm Ketchum takes down 1st place price money and the
WSOP gold ring.
