ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (September 19, 2006) – For the past four days, players
battled. Over 500 players entered the Borgata Poker Open final tournament
with the same goal and dream -- to be one of the final six with a seat at the
televised World Poker Tour final table. On Monday, twenty-seven players
remained all focused on making it to the final table and winning the $1.5
million dollar first place prize purse.

With the
WPT television crews building the set for today’s Final Table in the
Events Center, yesterday’s action moved to Borgata’s luxurious 85-table
poker room. The action started quickly with several players making quick exits
before the play tightened. Bette Carswell, an amateur who was one of two
remaining females in the field, was the first to exit the tournament.

Carswell had never played a tournament before winning her way to the Main
Event by playing in the $1,000 buy-in satellite. Carswell commented after the
tournament, “This is like a dream. I never expected to make it this far and can’
t be believe I finished 27th out of 540. The $26,000 prize money is more than
I make as a teacher, so that is great for me. I’m taking my parents to Bobby
Flay’s to celebrate.”

With Carswell’s exit, Jennifer Tilly was the only female remaining. Tilly, now a
seasoned poker player, was not intimated by the likes of Barry Greenstein,
John Phan, and other poker greats sitting around the final three tables. Tilly
took advantage of John Phan’s aggressive play, knocking him from the
tournament. Barry Greenstein was not far behind, finishing in 23rd place.

Tilly was fighting for the chip lead looking unstoppable at times, but she was
stopped. Mark Newhouse, the current chip leader, sent Tilly packing from this
premiere tournament. The Academy Award nominated actress finished in 15th
place taking home $52,000.

Six players remained as action came to a close at 9:00PM on Monday. The
remaining players are:

1. Mark Newhouse - $7,025,000
2. Chris McCormack - $3,000,000
3. Chris Bell - $1,200,000
4. Blaise Ingoglia - $840,000
5. Anthony Argila - $700,000
6. David Sklansky - $665,000

The final table begins today at 5 p.m. and the action will air on the Travel
Channel in the coming months.
